Parent Leadership Pathway – Engaging parents now!
10 week workshop series

The Family and Community Empowerment Dept.  has a full schedule of parentworkshops this fall. Each Tier of the Parent Leadership Pathway Program  is offered over the course of 10 weeks, and  provided at no cost to the school or the participants. The commitment from the school is merely to provide space. The facilitator will bring in all materials, child care, interpretation where needed, and a light snack.

In Tier I participants’ build skills in supporting their child’s education, through topics such as homework, positive communication, parent involvement, and the importance of good attendance. All sessions are interactive and designed just for parents. Additionally, the workshops enable the group to build cohesion and community while they also practice leadership skills.

In Tier II workshops, topics build participants’ understanding of new themes such as resilient families, social and emotional learning (SEL), and cultural competency. Many of those who complete these workshops move on to take a greater role in our district, by joining school site committees, or by becoming involved  in decision making at the district level. Most importantly, they feel connected to their school and equipped to support their child in a positive and constructive way.

Tier III workshops build on the previous skill sets to develop and support parent leadership. Facilitation skills, communication styles, asset mapping and data analysis linked to student achievement efforts are just a few of the topics covered in this 9 week series. Participants will also complete a family learning event design to present to their school administrators.
