Board of Education
The Board of Education is elected by the community to provide leadership and citizen oversight of the district’s 40,711 students. Among its many responsibilities, the Board establishes a long-term vision for the district and sets district policies and goals, while the Superintendent carries out the policies and manages the day-to-day operations of the district.
Your Board is also committed to:
- Conscientiously deciding how to use the district’s financial resources.
- Ensuring accountability to the local community, including personnel, programmatic and fiscal accountability.
- Providing community leadership and advocacy at the local, state and national levels on behalf of all students and public education.
Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) completed the process to transition from at-large to by-trustee area elections following voter approval in November 2006. SCUSD has seven (7) trustee areas. Each of the trustees is required to reside within a defined trustee area and each trustee is elected only by voters in that trustee area. This type of voting is referred to as by-trustee area or by-district voting.
