May 1, 2025
At the May 1 meeting of the Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Education, the Board recognized Aanya Seth, a 6th grade student from David Lubin Elementary. Aanya’s teacher, Chloe Williams, writes, “Aanya was born and raised in India until the age of 10. As a young girl, she only knew how to communicate through gestures, her own form of sign, but she had no formal language to express herself. At 10 years old, Aanya faced a monumental change—her family moved halfway across the world to California in the middle of her 4th-grade year.
Public Hearing Notice: American Indian Education Program
The Sacramento City Unified School District’s American Indian Education Program will hold its annual public hearing on Monday May 5, 2025 6:00PM-7:00PM at the Serna Center.
The purpose of this meeting is to gather recommendations for the 2025-2026 Title VI Indian Education Formula grant application.
Meeting Date: Monday, May 5th

April 10, 2025
At the April 10 meeting of the Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Education, the Board recognized Robert Casillas, Eshal Sajid, Rose Casillas, Maxwell Sin, Dhruv Gupta, and May Akiyama from Bret Harte Elementary as our Stellar Students. These six students were celebrated by their teachers for completing school work on time, supporting classmates, being self motivated, positive attitudes, being engaged and asking questions, and for being good role models. Congratulations to our Stellar Students!

April 3, 2025
At the April 3 meeting of the Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Education, the Board recognized Anthony Estes from American Legion High School. Anthony enrolled at American Legion in May of 2024 eager to begin working on his academic goals. Anthony had fallen behind at his previous school and was in need of credit recovery. Anthony immediately began working on courses with the intention of completing his high school requirements as fast as possible.

March 20, 2025
At the March 20 meeting of the Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Education, the Board recognized Jolisa Cabrera, a 7th grade student from Sam Brannan Middle School as our Stellar Student. Jolisa is an advanced student with a 4.0 cumulative GPA and maintained straight A’s during her volleyball season, which will earn her recognition as a San Brannan Scholar-Athlete. Jolisa also excels at Robotics. Congratulations to our Stellar Student, Jolisa!
Staff Reports on Charter Renewal Published
As part of the standard renewal process, district staff publishes a summary report outlining key findings from the review of the charter school’s submitted petition. These reports, along with the charter petition and hearing dates, can be found on the SCUSD website at www.scusd.edu/charter-renewal.

At the March 6 meeting of the Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Education, the Board recognized Parkway Elementary students Juan Serrato, Kage Moua, Alexandros Ridgeway, Khaylia Myers, Sophia Casapao, JayLee Mallory, Mozamil Oriyakhail, Pakue Vang, and Avery Fuentes as Stellar Students. Parkway Principal Sharifa Siti-Bolton and teachers nominated the nine students for their academic success, kindness, leadership, empathy, respect, and hard work.

At the February 20 meeting of the Sacramento City Unified School District Board, the Board recognized Bella Lipscomb, a 6th grade student from Earl Warren Elementary as our Stellar Student. Bella has been able to lead by example and has made a positive impact in class. This year, she became class president, and has led her peers with wisdom and integrity. She has been an effective leader who sees the best in others, solves problems in a positive way, and supports her classmates.
