Take Our Family Experience Survey and Check Out Our New Special Education Handbook!
Dear Sac City Unified Families,
TAKE OUR FAMILY EXPERIENCE SURVEY
Your feedback is important as we work to improve how we support all students, especially when it comes to behavior management and the delivery of Special Education services in our schools. Whether or not your child receives Special Education services, we encourage you to provide your input regarding disciplinary practices. Every family’s perspective matters.
The data collected in this survey will help us understand what students need, so we can make changes that help everyone feel safe, included, and supported at school. This survey will be distributed in the fall and spring over the next five school years as part of our Action Plan to build a more equitable education system within SCUSD, where all students, especially those from historically marginalized groups, receive the opportunities they need to succeed.
Please take the survey by clicking here and review the attached Action Plan flyer for more information.
JOIN OUR BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT TRAINING SERIES
The Special Education Local Planning Area (SELPA) is offering a training series on Culturally Responsive Behavior Support: Reinforcement, Prevention, and De-escalation, taking place on June 2nd, June 3rd, and June 10th from 4:30–6:30 PM at Serna Center. This training will provide practical tools for educators, parents/caregivers, and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) professionals to apply behavior support that respects and reflects diverse backgrounds.

NEW SPECIAL EDUCATION HANDBOOK RESOURCE FOR FAMILIES
Additionally, the SELPA and our Community Advisory Committee (CAC) created a new Family Handbook for Special Education to support parents, guardians, and education rights holders in navigating the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process. This resource is intended to provide transparency and guidance so that you feel empowered to work with your child’s educational partners and ensure that your student’s social, emotional, and academic needs are met.
We believe that every child deserves to succeed, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, ability, immigration status, religion, or language spoken. We are committed to working together with you so that your child receives high quality education in the least restrictive environment.
