Content Filtering
Content Filtering Instructions for Staff
Sacramento City Unified requires staff to use Cisco Umbrella and other services to give them clearance to otherwise restricted content on the internet while on the district network. These services protect our servers and devices from phishing, malware, and ransomware attacks and also screen content for student use. Staff need to use their SCUSD credentials to verify their access.
Please select the device below that you are using for specific instructions.
Old MacBook Pros and Airs
Old MacBook Pro and Air users need to have Cisco Umbrella installed on their device in order to access all content on the internet.
- If Cisco Umbrella is installed, check that the Cisco Umbrella icon is active in your toolbar. If it is installed, but not working, start by rebooting.
- Submit a support ticket to have Tech Services install Cisco Umbrella.
- If it is not installed or you still are having issues, please contact Tech Services.
New MacBook Pro
New MacBook Pros come with Cisco Umbrella installed. You must be using your district credentials on this device to enable the Staff filtering. Set up your new MacBook Pro with district credentials by following this setup guide.
- Please check that the Cisco Umbrella icon is active in your toolbar identified by a green light and User: first-last in the drop down menu when clicked.
- If Cisco Umbrella is installed but not working (light is not
green or your username is missing), try these tips:
- Click the JAMF icon in the toolbar and ensure you are signed in (note you can also contact the Help Desk from here).
- Reboot/Restart
- Ensure your Chrome Browser does not say “PAUSED” or “UPDATE.”
- If it is not installed (no icon is present) or you still are having issues, please contact Tech Services.
