When to Keep Your Child Home from School
Guidance for Common Signs and Symptoms

Overview
KEEP YOUR CHILD AT HOME IF THEY ARE ILL 

Follow instructions for any symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea   See COVID Symptoms Guidance. If positive for COVID, isolate at home and report the positive to your school. A SCUSD Contact Tracer will contact you to provide return guidance.

For all other illness, RETURN WHEN
  • 24 hours fever free without using fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol, Motrin, Ibuprofen etc.
  • 24 hours without vomiting or diarrhea
  • For specific diseases, per doctor or health department instructions.
  • Symptoms are mild and improving

If returning with mild symptoms, recommend your child wear a mask for any cold and cough symptoms, and encourage your child to wash hands frequently.
