Sacramento City Unified families may be eligible for SUN Bucks. This new California program provides up to $120 per eligible child to help cover the cost of groceries during the summer months.

What is SUN Bucks?

SUN Bucks is California’s version of the Summer EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) program. It helps ensure that children have access to nutritious food during the summer break.

Who’s eligible?

Children may qualify for SUN Bucks if they are between the ages of 6 and 18, attending school AND if any of the following are true:

  • Are enrolled in CalFresh, CalWORKS, or Medi-Cal
  • Are experiencing homelessness, in foster care, or part of a migrant family
  • Meet household income requirements

How do I apply?

  • Submit one online Universal Benefits Application (UBA) per household: Universal Benefit Application by June 20, 2025.
  • If your household has received SNAP benefits (CalFresh) between July 1, 2024 and today, your child should automatically be enrolled in the 2025 Summer EBT (SUN Bucks) program. You likely will not need to submit a 2025 Summer EBT application.
  • If your household is not currently enrolled in SNAP benefits (CalFresh) and you believe you are eligible, we encourage you to apply.

How much will I get?

Eligible families will receive $40 per month for each of the three summer months—June, July, and August—for a total of $120 per child. Benefits will be loaded onto S-EBT cards and mailed directly to your home, not the District office or school site. (Please make sure your mailing address is current within Infinite Campus).

  • You will receive a new SUN Bucks card for each eligible child
  • SUN Bucks will work as a debit card
  • Parent/Guardians must submit an application annually

Please note: Submitting an application will not affect your immigration status or your child’s ability to receive school meals at no cost.
