SCUSD Statement on Response to Shooting at Sikh Temple
The Sacramento City Unified School District issued the following statement about the District’s support for students, staff and families after the shooting that took place at the Gurdwara Sacramento Sikh Society on Sunday.
“We stand in solidarity with our Sikh community and condemn the violence that disrupted an event taking place at a house of worship,” said SCUSD Board President Chinua Rhodes. “We are very concerned for our students who may be experiencing trauma as a result of this violence.”
Beyond FAFSA/CADAA: Scholarship Displacement and Veterans Benefits

As a section of SCUSD’S BEYOND FAFSA/CADAA Series, Financial Experts will share with our community about Veterans Benefits and AB288, Scholarship Displacement Legislation.
Enroll in 2023-2024 Parent Participation Preschool Program
Your participation in preschool is a wonderful way to begin what will be many years of involvement in your child’s education.
About the Program
Parents work in the classroom at least one day a week in collaboration and guidance of the preschool teacher to help children develop a variety of skills including social and emotional development, collaborative play, and self-directed learning.
Parents also attend separate parent education classes (usually held in the evening) to learn parenting techniques to use in the classroom and at home.
Food Support For Families Webinar
On Tuesday, March 14, join us for a FREE webinar from 6-7pm aimed at addressing food insecurity in our community.
We’ve partnered with River City Food Bank to inform our community about upcoming benefits changes, locations to access programs and services, and other ways of getting access to food and resources. Hear from our Student Support and Health Services team about upcoming programs that will be launching in partnership with SCUSD, No Kid Hungry and The Alchemist.

Sacramento City Unified Leadership Program
The Sacramento City Unified Leadership Program (SCULP) prepares teachers, counselors, and other educational professionals to take on administrative and leadership positions at a school site level. SCULP will focus on identifying, hiring, and supporting certificated employees to serve in SCUSD leadership positions while they earn their California Preliminary Administrative Services Credential.

Take Our School Climate Survey
In Sacramento City Unified School District, your input on how our schools are doing is important to us. We hope you will take a couple of minutes to give us feedback by completing our school climate survey. The survey will be open from February 27 to March 24.
Positive school climate is important to us as we work towards equitable outcomes for all of our students. The social and emotional health of our students is a priority. Hearing from all members of our community on these issues is critical.
Transitional Kindergarten is Expanding to 33 School Locations for the 2023-2024 School Year
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a stepping stone between preschool and kindergarten. The optional program provides students with an additional year of preparation, so they enter kindergarten with stronger academic, social, and emotional skills needed for future success in school.
Sacramento City Unified has expanded its transitional kindergarten to 33 locations for the 2023-2024 school year.

Are you interested in learning how to start saving for college with the state’s help? Would you like to know how to understand the financial aid your student may receive? As a section of SCUSD’S BEYOND FAFSA/CADAA Series, Financial Experts will share with our community about “How to begin a college savings plan regardless of your student’s age, and How financial aid works so you and your student can maximize the money.”

Hiram Johnson Community Fair
Join us on Saturday, February 18 from 12-4pm as we welcome Wide Open Walls artists painting murals throughout the campus!
In the quad, we’ll have live entertainment for you to enjoy by students and teachers of Hiram Johnson, TwoPoint4 Dance and Consci8us. Plus, get resources from over 30 community partners, let the kids jump in the bounce house or check out the Tahoe Park Neighborhood Association Makers Mart!
