Register for Free Virtual California College Fairs this October
Join the California State University (CSU), University of California (UC) and California’s Independent Colleges & Universities in one virtual space at the same time!
Attendees will be able to join live sessions, watch campus videos and visit campus booths to live chat and/or meet with campus representatives. While fairs are scheduled in regions, students can attend any date that is best for them.

Transportation on SacRT
Fare-free transit for youth in grades TK through 12th
Youth in grades TK through 12 can take advantage of RydeFreeRT, the fare-free transit program for youth and students.
With RydeFreeRT, youth can ride the entire SacRT transit network, including SacRT buses, light rail, and SmaRT Ride on-demand microtransit service for FREE! RydeFreeRT is available all day, any day of the week during regular SacRT service hours.
Students just need a school student ID card or a RydeFreeRT card. No sticker is required to ride. Schools will be issuing new RydeFreeRT cards to all Sac City Unified students in the next few weeks.

Teenagers Can Pre-Register to Vote

16 or 17? Pre-register to vote!
Californians who are 16 or 17 years old can pre-register to vote by filling out the Secretary of State’s online form or by completing a paper form found at county elections offices and DMVs.
The Central Kitchen Food Truck Debuts at the Sacramento Farm-to-Fork Festival
This past Saturday, September 18 our Sacramento City Unified School District’s Nutrition Services team launched the Central Kitchen Food Truck at the 2021 Farm-to-Fork Festival. The Nutrition Services team packed a full day of serving Birria Style Tacos and Chilled Chamoy Fruit Cups. Festival attendees were able to get a preview of what is hoped to be new items on SCUSD school lunch menu in the near future.
Back-to-School Update
Dear Sacramento City Unified Families:
This will be our last “Back-to-School Update” as our first full week of the school year for the majority of our schools is officially in the books. Over the past week, roughly 39,000 students attended class at our 75 campuses throughout Sacramento City Unified. After more than 18 months of learning interrupted by the pandemic, we are thankful to see so many of our students in person once again.

On September 2, 2021, less than one week from today, SCUSD will open for its first day of full in-person school in over 18 months for our 40,000 students. District staff have been working hard to prepare for our reopening by following our district’s Return Together plan, and are excited about welcoming students back to campus next week.

If you are interested in your student attending a SCUSD Expanded Learning Program, please fill out an interest form at https://www.youthdevelopmentscusd.org/.
SCUSD Expanded Learning Programs will be run by various community-based organizations based on the school site’s contract. All organizations will follow the SCUSD Return to Health Plan.
Back-to-School Update: Independent Study
Independent Study Program
Per state law, districts are required to resume in-person instruction and are no longer permitted to continue distance learning. Sacramento City Unified is reopening with strong health and safety standards under California Department of Public Health Guidance. Our district’s updated health and safety protocols can be found at returntogether.scusd.edu/return-health.

Full in-person learning, independent study, and CDPH guidance
With only one month left until the start of our new school year, our district is looking forward to welcoming students back for the 2021-2022 academic year and a return to full in-person learning. The first day of the school year for students is September 2, except for New Joseph Bonnheim Community Charter and Sacramento New Technology High School which begin on August 9.

Sac City Unified is in the process of finalizing our Facilities Master Plan (FMP) and is looking for feedback from our community. We are holding five community meetings on Zoom between August 3-12 for Sac City Unified families, staff and community members to learn about the draft FMP and offer input.
