Progress Made in Negotiations on Sunday; District Sent Further Enhanced Compensation Proposal to SCTA Sunday Evening
Dear Sac City Unified Families,
The Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) and SCTA continued to make progress in negotiations, and worked well into the evening on Sunday. We will meet on Monday with SCTA and we are scheduled to meet with SEIU at 10:00 am on Monday.

Dear Sac City Unified Families,
All schools will remain closed tomorrow, Monday, March 28, 2022, for student instruction and activities. We have been working all weekend to end this SCTA/SEIU strike through good faith bargaining, and are still negotiating with our labor partners. Because we know our families need to plan for tomorrow, we are confirming that all schools will be closed tomorrow, Monday, March 28, 2022, although we remain hopeful to reach agreements with SCTA and SEIU soon, and that our labor partners will suspend the strike.

After three days of school closures due to labor action, we know you are anxious for information as you plan for school, work, child care and food next week. We are too. Despite our requests to continue negotiations, SCTA has not yet responded to us with a counterproposal to resume bargaining. Our negotiations team is ready, willing, and able to bargain through the weekend in order to get our 40,000 students back to school on Monday.

Dear Sac City Unified Families,
Today, striking activities continued that resulted in schools being closed for instruction. Our district’s negotiations team remained – and remains – ready to meet at the bargaining table to end the strike and hope to hear from SCTA soon about resuming such negotiations. Unfortunately, this means that our families should anticipate that all SCUSD campuses will be closed for student instruction and activities tomorrow, Friday, March 25.

Schools closed for instruction; urging continued negotiations
Dear Sac City Unified Families,
We know that today has been an extremely difficult day for our community, particularly for our students who lost a day of learning and for our families who had to find alternatives to care for and supervise their children while also managing schedules and other obligations.
Negotiations Update: Sacramento City Unified Negotiations Team Met with SCTA and Mediators Throughout the Day; Enhanced Proposal to SCTA with Additional Health Care Benefit
Following a mediation session that went late into the night on Monday, the Sacramento City Unified School District’s negotiations team continued to meet with representatives from the Sacramento City Teachers Association (SCTA) bargaining team and two state appointed mediators throughout the day on Tuesday.

Monday, March 21
Updates on Possible School Closures in the Event of a Labor Strike Tomorrow
Dear Sac City Unified Families,
As of now, Sac City certificated and classified labor partners, SCTA and SEIU, are still planning a joint strike tomorrow Wednesday, March 23. If no agreement is reached this evening, all schools will be closed tomorrow and until the strike comes to an end. District leadership is continuing to work with our labor partners to avert a strike and you will be notified as soon as schools are scheduled to reopen.
Grab-and-Go Meals Available for Students
In an effort to make sure Sacramento City Unified School District
(SCUSD) students have access to healthy meals in the event of a
strike on Wednesday, March 23, SCUSD Nutrition Services
Department is offering grab-and-go meals for students.
Meals will be available at several convenient community
locations for pick up between 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. each day. Meals
will also be available in limited quantities at all SCUSD school
locations IF NECESSARY during the school day, but we recommend
that you visit one of nine convenient community locations.
Update on ongoing negotiations with SCTA and plans in the event of a strike
Dear Sac City Unified Families,
Last night, SCUSD’s negotiations team met from 2:30 p.m. until late into the night at the bargaining table with the Sacramento City Teachers Association (SCTA) and two state-appointed mediators, who provided ongoing negotiations support between the two parties. The district’s negotiating team is meeting with SCTA’s negotiations team and the appointed mediators again today.
Important SCTA/SEIU Negotiations and Possible Strike Updates

Beginning at 2:30pm today, SCUSD has been meeting at the bargaining table with SCTA to work toward reaching agreement in hopes of averting a strike.
As a reminder, if an agreement is not reached by the start of the SCTA/SEIU planned strike beginning on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, all campuses will be closed for instruction.

Board Vote on COVID Masking Guidelines
Dear Sacramento City Unified School District families,
In a special Board of Education meeting last night (Tuesday, March 8), District staff presented a recommendation for lifting SCUSD’s masking requirement. You may view the meeting powerpoint presentation here. The Board voted to maintain our current mask requirement until, at the earliest, after Spring Break (Monday, April 18).
