Update On Negotiations For Adding Instructional Days
Dear SCUSD Families:
Our district is continuing to negotiate with the Sacramento City Teachers’ Association (SCTA) to address how we will make up for the learning time that our students lost during the recent strike. Our district has proposed to extend the 2021-22 academic calendar to recover most of the instructional days and minutes our students lost.

Free Bike Repairs on Saturday, May 21
Dear Sac City Unified Families,
May is Bike Month, and if your bike is in need of repair, you’re in luck! On Saturday, May 21, between 10am and 2pm at Luther Burbank High School, Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates will be hosting a Ride Ready Free Bicycle Repair Clinic! Walk-ins are welcome, but you can also book an appointment online to minimize your wait time!

Film Screening at Sam Brannan for May is Mental Health Month

Sam Brannan Middle School will be hosting a virtual mental wellness event- screening of the film Angst as part of May is Mental Health Month.
- Event: Angst Film Screening and post-viewing panel discussion.

Angst is an iNDIEFLIX film program designed to raise awareness around anxiety.
Independent Study Option
2022-2023
Dear Sacramento City Unified Family,
We want to inform you on important information regarding enrollment at our Capital City Independent Study program for the 2022-23 school year and beyond.
In July of 2021, Governor Newsom signed Assembly Bill 130 into law for the 2021-22 school year. AB 130 provided provisions for students to have independent study as an option for instruction during the COVID pandemic.
Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
In the month of May we celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month where we pay tribute to the history and achievements of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) across the US. The AANHPI community contributes a beautiful diversity of cultures and languages to our country.

MAKING UP LOST INSTRUCTIONAL TIME
We continue to collaborate with SCTA toward an effective solution for recovering student learning time lost due to the recent strike. The district and SCTA exchanged proposals on April 25 and again on May 4.
Expanded Learning Opportunities Program Plan
The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program Plan is available for public review May 6, 2022 – May 13, 2022.

If you are seeking financial assistance for college next year, we want to remind you that there are multiple scholarships for Sac City Unified students. Applying for scholarships is one of the most important steps students and families can take in paying for college.
Please visit our scholarship page at scusd.edu/scholarships for more information. The deadline to apply for district scholarships is May 6, 2022.
Public Hearing for Title VI Indian Education Program
The Sacramento City Unified School District’s Title VI Indian Education Program will hold its annual public hearing and parent committee meeting on Wednesday May 11, 2022 at 6:00 p.m.
The purpose of this meeting is to gather recommendations for the 2022-2023 formula grant application.
The meeting will be held on a zoom conference call.

Instruction Time Recovery Update
The Sacramento City Unified School District remains committed to keeping our families informed about the progress of recovering student instructional time lost due to the recent strike.
The district is determined to reach an agreement that provides students with the quality learning time they deserve while minimizing disruption to family schedules. Additionally, any agreement must consider the financial impact to our budget.
Call for 2022 Essay Contest Entries—$1,000 Scholarship
Operation Recognition Essay Contest Sponsored by SAFE Credit Union
The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is now accepting submissions for an essay contest designed to honor local military veterans. The winning high school student will receive a $1,000 college scholarship, courtesy of SAFE Credit Union.

Making Up Lost Instructional Time for Students
SCUSD is committed to ensuring our students receive equitable access to critical instructional days and minutes lost due to the strike. Given our budget outlook (which you can learn more about at this evening’s board meeting) and based on our recent agreements with SCTA and SEIU staff, it is also imperative that we find a solution that reduces state fines associated with these lost days and minutes.
