At the October 5, 2023 Sacramento City Unified School District Board meeting, the Board approved the appointment of Rinaldo Shackelford as Principal of the School of Engineering and Sciences.  Board Member Christina Pritchett recognized George Washington Carver School of Arts and Sciences students Kat Valley and Ruby “Rose” Lewis as Stellar Students.

The Board took action to approve four resolutions:

  • Recognition of October as Filipino American History Month in honor of contributions that Filipino Americans have made to the United States. Filipino Americans are the second-largest Asian American group in the nation and the third-largest ethnic group in California.
  • Recognition of October 8-14, 2023 as the Week of the School Administrators to honor the work that administrators and school site principals do to support and guide teachers and staff, resulting in productive learning environments for students.
  • Recognition of October 9-13, 2023 as the Week of National School Lunch. The National School Lunch Program serves more than 30 million children every school day, providing healthy food that supports students’ ability to learn and thrive.
  • Adoption of carbon neutral goals and guidelines for SCUSD buildings that will guide the design, construction, and modernization of school buildings and facilities to achieve carbon neutrality in the district’s building portfolio by 2045, if not sooner.
