Dear Sac City Unified families,

We want to provide some updates about our efforts to expand the community school model in our system, and share an opportunity to apply for the Community School Advisory Council (CSAC). 

What’s a Community School? 

Our Community Schools and Community School Advisory Committee (CSAC)

  • Successful community schools are inspired by a research-based strategy to create welcoming environments, ensure underserved communities receive equitable resources, create community partnerships and foster the self-empowerment necessary to support student learning, strong families and thriving communities.
  • Community schools collaborate with students, families, community partners and business organizations in decision making that affects teaching and learning.
Which SCUSD Sites are Community Schools? 

So far, eighteen school sites throughout the district have received community schools grants from the State of California:

  • César E. Chávez Intermediate Elementary
  • Earl Warren Elementary
  • Edward Kemble Elementary
  • Ethel I. Baker Elementary
  • Ethel Phillips Elementary
  • Fern Bacon Middle
  • Hiram Johnson High
  • John Bidwell Elementary
  • John D. Sloat Elementary
  • John Still TK-8 
  • Luther Burbank High
  • Oak Ridge Elementary
  • Pacific Elementary
  • Parkway Elementary
  • Rosa Parks K- 8
  • Will C. Wood Middle
  • Woodbine Elementary
What’s the Community School Advisory Council (CSAC)?
  • The CSAC is an advisory group that weighs in on implementing the community school model and collaborates with district staff, students, families and community members.
  • They will oversee the implementation of the SCUSD Community School Implementation Grants awarded by the California Department of Education (CDE). 

If you are interested in applying to be a CSAC member, please complete the CSAC application form by Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 11:59pm. 

Our Board of Education members will review all applications and make their selections. Board members will announce their appointed CSAC parent/community caregiver appointee at a future school board meeting.
