Scholarship

(A One Year Scholarship for $500)

Application Period: January 16, 2024 – April 12, 2024

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The Rodney Hollander Memorial Scholarship was established by his daughter to celebrate his years of service to Sacramento City Unified School District. Before coming to C. K. McClatchy High School, he was a teacher at Will C. Wood Middle School and a counselor at California Middle School. At McClatchy he was a counselor, coach, mentor, and finally an administrator before retiring. His love for all students and his job was his greatest gift to our District. He believed that every student could succeed in whatever they chose to do.  This scholarship is to encourage any student at C. K. McClatchy High School to find their passion and who will be attending a Los Rios Community College Campus.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE:

The Rodney Hollander Memorial Scholarship is open to a senior student graduating from C. K. McClatchy High School.  Students must plan to attend a campus in the Los Rios Community College District in the Fall. Special Education students are encouraged to apply. Students may choose any desired field of study and must provide evidence of college acceptance. To be eligible for this scholarship, GPA will not be required. However, students are encouraged to achieve their best academic status at the time of graduation. Students must submit an online application located at www.scusd.edu/scholarships.

NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS:

Scholarship winners will be announced at the selected student’s High School Awards Assembly, unless otherwise indicated.

APPLICATION ATTACHMENTS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Any student who meets the stated qualifications must complete an online application.  The completed application must be accompanied by the following documents:

1. Student Essay- (essay must be typed in the appropriate box on the application, must be 750 words or less and must include the following):

-Personal challenges

-Community involvement (including future involvement)

2. Two Letters of Recommendation (MUST INCLUDE):

-One from a school official (principal, counselor, or teacher) at the student’s high school; and

-One from outside the school (employer, pastor, youth leader, or community leader)

3. College Enrollment:

Verification of acceptance to a Los Rios Community College campus, or acknowledgement by the college that the process is underway
