Renaming of Charles M. Goethe Middle School

Rosa Parks was the name selected by the Board of Education at its meeting on Thursday, June 21.


At the February 15, 2007 Board of Education Meeting, community members presented extensive and disturbing historical information about C. M. Goethe to the Board and requested that the middle school bearing his name be changed. Board Policy 7310 states, in part, “The renaming of existing schools or major facilities shall occur only under extraordinary circumstances and after thorough study.” On March 1, 2007 at Board of Education meeting, the Board authorized the Superintendent to convene a citizen advisory committee to review suggestions for renaming C. M. Goethe Middle School. The committee met on May 14th, 21st and June 4th and made the following recommendations.
