Winter Break Attendance Reminders
As we gear up for winter break we wanted to remind you of a few simple practices that could improve school attendance for your site and help our students stay on track in this traditionally low attendance period.
- Independent Studies (STIS) for students going on extended vacations, possibly out of the country, and remaining out of school for extended periods of time (minimum of 5 consecutive days for non-Charter schools and a minimum of 1 day for Charter schools). Here is a link to the Independent Studies section in the Attendance Toolkit: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1WWozszVcThj5M_8yD19xd5Py7pLvSzJ.
This includes the guidelines and the contract. Please be sure to read all of the requirements before you move forward with assigning Independent Studies. It is critical that the agreements are completed accurately, signed by all 3 parties and dated before the contract begins.
- Preventative automated messages reminding families when vacation starts and ends and that January 7th is the first day back at school. Schedule some messages before break and also the last few days of break so families are reminded frequently and timely.
- Incentivize: consider planning a spirit day, classroom competition or other school-wide fun activity on Monday, January 7th to encourage students to return to school.
Please contact Jennifer Kretschman, 916-643-2136, should you have any questions.
Lastly, thank you so much for all of your hard work this year so far. Your students and families are lucky to have you and we are so excited to continue to collaborate and support you around attendance however we can.
