Questions have arisen regarding school restroom access given the changing state of California law. The attached memo addresses frequently asked questions and the corresponding answers are intended to provide clarity regarding potential misconceptions of the legal requirements. In addition to the memo, it is recommended that all administrators review District Policy 5145.31, Transgender and Gender Variant Students (attached), which includes guidance concerning issues such as locker room access, student record privacy and access to classes and school activities (athletics), etc. The Facilities Department plans to begin placing new signage at gender neutral single user restrooms at sites after the Thanksgiving Holiday.
