Principal Bulletin Informational

The district cafeterias will be open this summer at 30 school sites. Children and teens will be able to eat nutritious breakfasts and lunches at no charge this summer. To find schools open for breakfast and lunch, text the word FOOD or COMIDA to 877877 or call 211 for the most updated dates and meal time information.

Access to meals throughout the summer helps ensure kids are healthy and ready to learn when school resumes. “Along with the enrichment and academic programs offered by SCUSD’s Expanded Learning Summer Program, students will be offered a hot breakfast and lunch, with seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables from regional growers like Vierra Farms, Fully Belly Farms and Okui Farms,” states Diana Flores, Nutrition Services Director. During the school year, SCUSD’s Nutrition Services serves more than 45,000 meals a day in school cafeterias throughout the city. Many students eat for free: about two-thirds of SCUSD’s 44,000 students qualify for a free or reduced-price meal through the federal school lunch program.

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) benefits all children in accordance with federal law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) policy. Summer Food Service is a federally-funded program and SCUSD’s costs are reimbursed by the federal government.  Children do not need to be enrolled in any programs to receive free meals.
