June 16, 2015 (Sacramento):  SCUSD Board of Education Vice President Jay Hansen, City Councilmember Steve Hansen and SCUSD Superintendent José L. Banda will announce first steps towards the reopening of downtown’s Washington Elementary School at a press conference scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 18.

Washington was closed due to budget cuts in 2013. This spring, City Councilmember Hansen and Board Vice President Hansen hosted a community meeting at the school to gather neighborhood input on possible uses for the campus. Currently, an SCUSD Child Development preschool program occupies a portion of the site.
