SCUSD, Councilman McCarty to address Fruitridge Road safety

Press release

September 9, 2013 (Sacramento):  SCUSD Superintendent Jonathan Raymond and Sacramento City Councilman Kevin McCarty will announce a plan for improving the safety of a Fruitridge Road crosswalk at a press conference on Wednesday, September 11.

The crosswalk, at 58th Street and Fruitridge Road, is heavily used by students at West Campus High School on their way to and from school. On January 19, 2012, West Campus student Michelle Murigi, 16, was hit by a car in the crosswalk and died from her injuries. Subsequent to her death, five of Michelle’s friends and classmates started a petition to demand a traffic signal at the intersection of 58th and Fruitridge (www.facebook.com/58thAndFruitridge).
