Christine Baeta Receives National Award for Lifetime Commitment of Advocacy for Students with Disabilities

Press release

SACRAMENTO - Sacramento City Unified School District Chief Academic Officer Christine Baeta this week was awarded by the National Center for Learning Disabilities as an Everyday Champion for students with disabilities. This award, which is given to three individuals each year, is given to one administrator, one teacher, and one parent who have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to advocacy and work on behalf of students with disabilities. Ms. Baeta received the Administrator Award.

“Working on behalf of students with disabilities has been a lifelong commitment for me as an educator, and as a person,” said Chief Academic Officer Christine Baeta. “I’m the mom of four beautiful children. My firstborn daughter was born with cerebral palsy, and my three sons had learning differences. I wanted to be involved in their classrooms and as I got more involved, it didn’t take long for me to realize that working with students with disabilities would be my life’s work. As an educator, I strive to make sure that my families know that they have an advocate right there with them through this journey.”

Ms. Baeta joined the district in November 2018. She began her tenure at Sac City Unified as an Instructional Assistant Superintendent and previously worked at Elk Grove Unified School District as a principal.
