Sacramento City Unified School District is kicking off an elementary sports program that will serve over 22,000 children participating in sports throughout the year at all 45 elementary schools. The new sports program is good for kids and will also boost student attendance rates to help generate potentially millions more in revenue to address the district’s budget deficit. Kids will have the opportunity to play flag football in the fall, basketball in the spring, or participate in a running program that runs year-round. A press conference will be held with district officials, community leaders, and representatives from the Be Here student attendance campaign prior to the start of the first flag football game.

Superintendent Jorge Aguilar; Sac City Unified Board of Education President Jessie Ryan; Board of Education Members Darrel Woo, Christina Pritchett, and Mai Vang; City of Sacramento Representatives (Mayor Steinberg and city councilmembers invited); Local elected official representatives; District labor union partners; Representatives of the Be Here student attendance campaign; Sports Commissioners; Elementary school players and coaches.
