What: After decades of playing on an old and outdated field, student athletes at Hiram Johnson High School can finally celebrate the grand opening of a new athletic field and facility paid for with voter approved bond money. To celebrate the grand opening of the new field, members of the Sacramento City Unified Board of Education, Superintendent, student athletes, coaches, teachers and school staff will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony. The new facility includes a synthetic turf soccer/football field and an all-weather surface 8-lane track. Last year, the Sacramento City Unified Board of Education approved using voter approved bond funds to make the much-needed improvements, and construction on the project started this past June. Funding for the project was made possible thanks to voters passing Measures Q & R in 2012. The voter approved measures have helped Sac City schools make much needed upgrades and renovations to district facilities, many of which are 50 years old and in need of updating.
