More SCUSD students graduate ready for college

June 28, 2012 (Sacramento):  The number of Sacramento City Unified School District students who are completing all courses required for University of California and California State University entrance is on the rise, according to state data released this week.

About 800 SCUSD Class of 2011 graduates – or about one-third – met California’s college readiness standards, up from 697 the previous year. At West Campus High School, 57.4 percent of graduates completed UC system “a-g” requirements, up 10.1 percent over 2010.The statewide college-readiness rate is 40.3 percent.

At Luther Burbank High School, where 90 percent of students live in homes at or below the federal poverty threshold, 40 percent of students graduated ready for college in 2011, an increase of 0.9 percent over 2010.

School of Engineering and Sciences, a small high school in the Pocket neighborhood, surpassed the state average with 40.7 percent of graduates UC-ready. SES graduated its first class of seniors in 2011.
