Hundreds of SCUSD Students to be Honored at State Fair for Perfect Attendance
Event at Cal Expo will celebrate students and their families
Mailmen, eat your heart out. Rain or shine, more than 1,700 first through sixth graders in Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) didn’t miss a single day of school during the 2010-11 school year. More than 330 of those students and their families will be recognized for their accomplishment at an event at the State Fair on Tuesday. The event is the culmination of the year-long “Every Day Counts” campaign by SCUSD designed to increase attendance throughout the school year.
“We are proud of these committed boys and girls and their families who are providing an outstanding example for our entire district,” said SCUSD Superintendent Jonathan Raymond. “Countless studies show a direct correlation between attendance and academic achievement, validating what we already know: The first step to a quality education is being in school every single day.”
The event will include welcomes from area elected officials as well as the presentation of official Resolutions from the City of Sacramento, Sacramento County and the State of California to mark the occasion. The event kicks off at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19 on the Main Stage at Cal Expo. Following the event, many students and their families will stay and enjoy the rest of the day at the State Fair.
Media interested in attending the event should contact the Cal Expo Media Relations department at (916) 263-3108 to request credentials and coordinate access.
