COVID-19 Symptoms Guidance

Any student or staff member who tests positive for COVID-19 must stay home and contact their supervisor or principal. Supervisors must report immediately to Health Services via email to covidreport@scusd.edu for contact tracing.

If you have any of the following symptoms

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea or vomiting

Test for COVID-19 with an OTC Test

Keep a supply of OTC COVID-19 tests at home. Get the tests for free from your school office or at the Serna lobby. 

If the COVID-19 test is NEGATIVE

Return to school if 24 hours fever free without using fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol, Motrin, Ibuprofen etc. and other symptoms are mild and improving. 

If the COVID-19 test is POSITIVE

Stay home and notify your principal/supervisor. A contact tracer will contact you to provide guidance on return to work/school.

If you were exposed to someone who has COVID-19

Continue to attend school/work as long as you do not develop symptoms of illness. It is recommended that you:  

  • Monitor for COVID-19 symptoms
  • Test for COVID-19 if you have symptoms
