Stay Home if Sick and Return Guidance


Any student or staff member who tests positive for COVID-19 must stay home and contact their supervisor or principal. Supervisors must report immediately to Health Services via email to for contact tracing.

Anyone who has symptoms must also remain home and follow the guidance below:

Stay Home if you have any of the following symptoms

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea or vomiting

Test for COVID-19 with an OTC Test

Keep a supply of OTC COVID-19 tests at home. Get the tests for free from your school office or at the Serna Testing Clinic. 

If the COVID-19 test is NEGATIVE

Return to school if at least 24 hours have passed since fever (without the use use of reducing medicines) and symptoms have improved. 

If the COVID-19 test is POSITIVE

Stay home and notify your principal/supervisor. A contact tracer will contact you to provide guidance on return to work/school.

Exposure Protocol

Students and staff regardless of vaccination status may continue to attend school/work as long as they do not develop symptoms of illness.  Exposed individuals are recommended to:  

  • Monitor for COVID-19 symptoms
  • Get tested 3-5 days after exposure
  • Wear a well-fitting mask for a total of 10 days after exposure
