McClatchy Music April events

Woman conducting orchestra

The McClatchy High School Music Program continued is active performance schedule in April with a shared concert with local community band The Capitol Pops and a benefit concert in support of local charity Loaves and Fishes organized by the program’s chapter of the TRI-M Music Honor Society.

Of special note, McClatchy Music Program student, Cara Taylor, will be presented a Capitol Leadership Award by Senator Angelique Ashby this month. Cara is the orchestra’s cello section leader, the choir’s soprano section leader, the jazz band’s vocal soloist, and she is the president of the school’s TRI-M Music Honor Society.

The McClatchy Music Program also kicked off a new concert series called Music of the World.  The inaugural concert, Recital de Rondallas, was presented in conjunction with the Mexican Cultural Center of Northern California.  It featured rondalla ensembles from the Mexican states of Veracruz, Durango, and Puebla.

The program wraps up the school year with three concerts. The middle school invitational performance is on May 8 at 6:00 pm, the annual Awards Concert – half awards ceremony, half concert – is on Thursday May 29 at 6:30pm, and the annual Land Park concert is on Wednesday June 5 at 6:30pm.  All events in May and June are free and held in the McClatchy High School Auditorium.
