SCUSD Board of Education Recap - November 7, 2024

Congratulations to Stellar Students from Luther Burbank High School: Nidhi Rana, Kyla Prasad, Autumn Vang, Lily Bui, and Konshee Khang!

At the November 7 meeting of the Sacramento City Unified School District Board, the Board recognized five students who attend Luther Burbank High School as SCUSD Stellar Students: 

  • Nidhi Rana is a senior participating in Luther Burbank High School’s Law and Social Justice Academy. She is a hardworking student and has dreams to pursue a nursing career after high school. 
  • Kyla Prasad is a senior participating in Luther Burbank High School’s Law and Social Justice Academy. She has maintained an outstanding academic record and always has a positive attitude. Kyla has many career interests such as Law, Psychology and English.
  • Autumn Vang is very involved in school activities, She participates in the Associated Student Body (ASB) where she serves as the Finance officer, and is a member of the Volleyball Club, and has played volleyball for three years. She plans to study interior architecture and design in college. 
  • Lily Bui is a senior at Luther Burbank High School. Lily maintains over a 4.0 GPA and enjoys participating in the arts such as drawing, making polymer clay sculptures, singing, and dancing. She is in the CAS club, which centers on activities with creativity, action, and service. Lily aspires to become a pediatrician. This past summer she volunteered at Vitalant to help her community and observe medical workers due to her interest in the medical field. 
  • Konshee Khang is a senior who is diligent and dedicated in both academics and extracurricular activities. She has maintained over a 4.0 at Burbank and has completed two dual enrollment college courses, a freshman seminar and Psychology 300, earning As in both. She plans to pursue a career as a mental health therapist. 

The Board approved the appointment of Mikako Fisher Hill as assistant superintendent of Early Learning and Care.

The Board held a special presentation to recognize outgoing Board Members Christina Pritchett, who has served on the Board representing Area 3 for 12 years, and Jamee Villa, who has served on the Board representing Area 4 for four years.

The Board took action to approve three Resolutions:

  • Recognition of Veterans Day on November 11.

  • Recognition of the month of November as National Native American Heritage Month. This observance commemorates the history, heritage, and culture of Native American and Alaska Native people, and acknowledges the vast achievements of America’s original indigenous people.

  • Recognition of 1984 Sikh Genocide. Sikh (Sikhism) is the fifth-largest religion in the world and today, there are more than 25 million Sikhs worldwide and more than 500,000 Sikh Americans, including over 40,000 in the Sacramento region. This recognition shows solidarity with the Sikh community and calls for truth, justice, and accountability to redress the systematic persecution of Sikhs.

The Board received an informational update from District staff on the District’s Student Support and Health Services Annual Report, which provides information about supports and interventions provided to students.
