Statement from Board of Education President Tara Jeane

Our district is in a pivotal moment that requires stable leadership, a commitment to rebuild trust, and an unwavering focus on our end goal–a thriving education system designed for every student’s success.

Over the last three decades, Cancy McArn has been a member of our community, doing the work day in and day out. She started her career in SCUSD as a teacher at Bear Flag and Washington Elementary and we are excited she will be a Superintendent that started as a teacher. She has grown with the District, serving in multiple roles and earning the respect of her colleagues, our community, and our labor partners. These experiences have uniquely positioned her to understand where we are and to be prepared to guide us where we need to go.

Over the last three months in her role as Interim Superintendent she has further demonstrated her willingness to step up where she is needed, to face hard truths, to have hard conversations, and to make the necessary decisions, which is more information than any interview process is able to produce.

After careful consideration, the Board has concluded that she is the best person to lead our district. We believe that an outside hire simply cannot match her deep local experience, her long established relationships, or her profound commitment to the success of this organization and our students.

Cancy McArn fully believes in Sac City Unified, has faith in the people who do the hard work of education, and she values the collaboration that makes teams successful.

Please join us in supporting Superintendent McArn, as the work ahead will take each of us continuing to focus on financial discipline, transparency, and rebuilding trust where it’s needed, so that every student gets the education they deserve.

Superintendent McArn, we appreciate your willingness to lead. We are ready to do this work.
