Student Voice Surveys - 3rd through 12th grade
Dear Families,
In order to learn more about student experiences in Sacramento CIty Unified School District, SCUSD is partnering with Kelvin Education this year to conduct district-wide Student Voice Surveys for children in grades 3rd thru 12th. Through these surveys, SCUSD will gain valuable information about the social emotional needs of our students and the Culture and Climate of our schools. The results of these surveys help inform both school based and district wide initiatives to support the culture and climate of our school communities.
Kelvin Education is a leader in the field of education data collection and analysis. Their surveys have been used by school districts across the country. The use of Kelvin Education’s research validated survey instruments and data management platform will provide us with comprehensive, user-friendly reports to inform programming to improve school culture and climate, students’ social emotional learning, and student engagement.
And with the use of Student Voice Survey to gather student feedback, we have been able to connect specific practices that are having a positive impact on our students having a greater sense of belonging at school. We are appreciative of the time students take to complete the survey so staff are better informed how to meet their culture and climate needs.
Families can learn more about the Student Voice Survey from site leaders and also request grade level and student group data.
The survey gathers information on the following:
- Student Connection: Do students feel connected to peers, staff, and curriculum at school?
- Social Emotional Learning: How do students perceive their development of social emotional skills such as self-regulation and identification of emotions?
- Safety: How do students feel intellectually, academically, emotionally and physically safe at the school?
How will students take the Student Voice survey?
- When: The survey will be administered 3 times this year: September 8th thru September 26th, then January 19th thru February 6th, and lastly May 18th thru June 5th.
- How: The Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment is a Federal Law that requires us to notify parents ahead of time about the survey and give them the opportunity to review it in advance so they can let us know if they do not want their child to take part. A copy of the survey statements can be accessed below using the identified QR code or by clicking here. The deadline to opt-out on behalf of the student is September 5th. The opt-out will need to be provided to the school in writing, or scan the QR code below, or click here.
We appreciate your time and attention to this, as well as your support as we look to understand the climate in our schools and how we can best benefit our students' social and emotional health. If you have any questions about the survey, please don’t hesitate to contact:
