Moving Forward: Adjusting the Academic Calendar for 2026-2027 and Beyond

Join a community meeting and take our online survey to ask questions and provide input.

To better align with other school district calendars in the region and enhance the academic, athletic, workforce, and social experiences of all middle and high school students, the Board of Education will consider a permanent adjustment to our academic calendar beginning with the 2026-2027 school year. The proposed change calls for an earlier start date in mid-August and earlier summer break in late May.

Some benefits of the updated academic calendar for secondary students include:

  • Finals before winter break - reduced learning loss and more relaxation during time off
  • Equal opportunity for learning time to prepare for AP and IB testing
  • Ability to take summer classes at community colleges without school year overlap
  • Earlier access to available summer jobs and internship programs
  • Better alignment with the CIF calendar for fall athletes to help athletes better prepare

We ask our families, staff, and students to participate in our survey regarding these changes.
