2026-27 Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten Enrollment Opens January 13, 2026

Parents/guardians can begin enrolling their child in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) or Kindergarten starting Tuesday, January 13, 2026. Please note that all enrollment applications are available online only.
For families who need assistance, the Enrollment Center offers computer kiosks, scanners, and a team of friendly staff ready to help with the application process. MOC translators are also available to support families who speak other languages.

Visit SCUSD’s SchoolFinder to determine your child’s neighborhood school based on school boundaries and explore all available school options. Many of our elementary and K-8 schools are also hosting tours and information sessions for prospective families.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK)
To be eligible for Transitional Kindergarten (TK), children must turn four years old on or before September 1, 2026. TK will be offered at 49 of our elementary and K–8 schools for the 2026–2027 school year.
Families residing within district boundaries may apply through the TK Lottery, where placement is determined by a lottery. The application window will be open from Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 8:00 AM through Friday, February 27, 2026, at 5:00 PM.
Families who apply will be notified of the lottery results on Monday, March 16, 2026.
Additional TK Enrollment Options
Families who do not apply through the TK Lottery can apply via general TK registration starting May 18, 2026. Registration is subject to availability across the district.

Kindergarten Enrollment
To be eligible for Kindergarten in Fall 2026, children must turn five years old on or before September 1, 2026. Kindergarten is offered at all elementary and K-8 schools.
Parents can begin registering their student for kindergarten on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 8:00 AM. Placement is based on the student’s primary address.

Open Enrollment
If you are interested in applying for kindergarten at a school of your choice through Open Enrollment, families can apply between February 2, 2026 at 8:00 AM and Friday, February 27, 2026 at 5:00 PM.
We recommend registering your kindergartener at your neighborhood school before applying for Open Enrollment, in case your child is not selected through the lottery.
Information about the 2026-2027 Open Enrollment application will be posted in January at https://www.scusd.edu/enroll/school-choice.
