TODAY IS SEL DAY!

SEL stands for social emotional learning, and incorporates social and emotional skills into education. Today is #SELday! To celebrate, check out this video showcasing SEL in action in our schools districtwide.  

WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

All year long we celebrate the women in our communities who shape history, yesterday, today and for our future. March is Women’s History Month and we want to appreciate all of the women who serve our district while also offering this educational resource for our families to explore! 

SOCIAL WORK MONTH

Huge shoutout to our social workers that serve our community and our district. We celebrate the support and positive influence that their work has on our society. Learn more about Social Work Month here

CONGRATS TO RAMON CAMPOS!

Congratulations to Ramon Campos of New Joseph Bonnheim Elementary School for being selected as ABC10’s Teacher of the Month for March! Watch the segment that honors him here

CONGRATS TO ADAM AT ROSEMONT!

Senior Adam Wanlin was selected as a Scholar-Athlete Honoree by the Sacramento Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. This honors Adam’s football and scholastic achievements along with his participation in community service projects throughout his four years of high school. Adam also received the Dale Lacky scholarship, awarded to top student athletes for outstanding athletic performance, community service, and academic success during their four years of high school. Adam is, and always has been, a leader among his peers at Rosemont High School, and all of this recognition is definitely well-deserved.

APPLY FOR THE S@CH PROGRAM

S@CH (Summer at City Hall) student applications open for the upcoming 2022 program cycle this summer on Friday, March 7th and continue through Friday, April 15th. The S@CH program is a six-week summer learning experience that provides incoming Juniors and Seniors the opportunity to learn about local government processes and how to become an active member of their community. PRIME TIME TEEN REGISTRATION

Prime Time Teen Virtually Connected program is a city-run, eight-week virtual workforce readiness and skill development program available for youth 13-17 years of age.

The online program places emphasis on engaging young people in the development of various 21st century readiness skills and the creation of small group community service projects. At the conclusion of the program when program requirements are completed, participants receive a certificate of completion and a $300 stipend. Online registration for the upcoming virtual spring session will begin Monday, March 7.

LANDSCAPE & LEARNING YOUTH JOBS

L&L Youth Aide recruitment is currently open to youth 14-17 years of age who live in the Sacramento city limits. Individuals are interviewed and hired as Youth Aides making an hourly wage of $15 per hour. During the summer Youth Aides are working up to 30 hours per week at various Sacramento city parks. Crews are provided support and supervision by an adult Crew Leader while providing the needed work of weeding, pruning, mulch distribution, and providing general park maintenance and clean-up. FAFSA, CDAA AND CAL GRANT EXTENSIONS

We are excited to share that the deadlines for Cal Grant, California Dream Act and FAFSA application have been extended to April 1. There’s still time to apply for money to help pay for college! 

STATE SEAL OF CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

SCUSD juniors and seniors are eligible for California’s new State Seal of Civic Engagement this year! The CA Department of Education will provide an embossed seal to be added to a student transcript or diploma, as recognition of students who demonstrate excellence in civics education and civic participation, to effect positive change. To learn the requirements for earning the State Seal, please review SCUSD’s State Seal Criteria. To apply, students need to complete the SCUSD SSCE Application and send it along with their self-reflection and two recommendations to their site coordinator. Application forms are now due by March 31.

BLACK PARENT INVOLVEMENT DAY RECAP

On February 28, Black Parallel School Board hosted Black Parent Involvement Day in our district. We want to thank all of our school sites that made this day a tremendous success offering culturally relevant education and more, and thank the 109 parents who participated by engaging in their students’ education. BLACK STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Applications are due for the 2022 Rosenwald “Robbie” Robertson scholarship by March 15, 2022. To request an application, please email: sblackcaucus4@gmail.com. Applications for the Black Parallel School Board’s Scholarship are due by April 1 at 5pm.

TOBACCO USE PREVENTION EDUCATION (TUPE) ACADEMY

The Student Support and Health Services Department would like to invite parents and caregivers to participate in the upcoming Tobacco Use Prevention Education Academy – an interactive, three-part virtual series where you will have an opportunity to gain knowledge and healing centered tools to support tobacco prevention, intervention and cessation. The sessions have been postponed and will now be hosted on March 22nd, April 5th, and April 19th from 6:00pm to 7:30pm via Zoom. MASKING 

In case you missed it, please read this important eConnection with updates about our current masking requirement and when we will move to a masking recommendation. Sacramento County did move into the low community level on March 10. We will continue to provide updates as we monitor our category rating over the coming weeks.
