We hope you’re having a good week! We have many exciting updates to share with you as we head into the weekend. 

TAKE-HOME COVID-19 TEST KIT DATA

Thanks to the continued efforts of our staff, students and families to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, our take-home test kit distribution effort kept over 200 positive cases out of classrooms! 

At-Home COVID Test Kits (3-Day Weekend Feb 11-14)

  • Provided 25,965 test kits to targeted school sites 
    • Monday surveillance testing schools and TK-8
  • 9,863 tests results reported in Primary.Health
  • 123 positive cases reported

At-Home COVID Test Kits (3-Day Weekend Feb 18-21)

  • Provided 45,180 test kits to all students and staff
  • 10,345 tests results reported in Primary.Health
  • 81 positive cases reported

OUR 3RD TESTING CENTER NOW OPEN IN MEADOWVIEW!

We have officially opened our 3rd Regional COVID-19 Testing Center in one of our most high need areas! This new center is open to all of our staff, students and household members and testing is free. Must be registered for testing here

Meadowview COVID-19 Testing Center

  • 2401 Florin Rd.
  • Monday through Friday 10am-6pm

Serna Center Testing Center

  • 5735 47th Ave.
  • Monday through Thursday: from 10am-4pm
  • Fridays from 10am-3pm (shortened hours due to vaccination clinics on Fridays from 4-7pm)

Albert Einstein Middle School Testing Center

  • 9325 Mirandy Dr. 
  • Monday through Friday: 4-7pm

EXTRA-CURRICULAR AND OUTDOOR MASKING UPDATES

Sacramento County case rates fell below 50 cases per 100K residents and held for over two weeks, so we were able to lift temporary blanket restrictions due to the omicron wave this week! Learn more about these guideline updates for extra-curricular activities and outdoor masking here

SCPH COVID-19 VACCINATIONS IN CHILDREN SURVEY

Sacramento County Public Health is conducting a survey about COVID-19 vaccinations in children. Respondents must be 18 years or older to participate and have at least one (1) child under their care who is under 18 years old. The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete and is available in English, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Pubjabi, Russian, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Dari, Ukranian, and Hmong Daw. Take the survey here

CONGRATS LUTHER BURBANK HIGH SCHOOL!

Luther Burbank High School was named the 2022 Sacramento State College of Education High School Partner of the Year! Luther Burbank has had a successful partnership with CSUS for the last 10 years with a cohort of between 9 and 13 student teachers each year. Well over 30 LBHS faculty have served as cooperating teachers during that time. One-hour workshops are provided to all student teachers every Friday, focusing on SEL, culturally responsive teaching and classroom management provided by faculty and administration. Hats off to the staff at Luther Burbank for the work that has led to this distinction!

We’re cheering for Brianna Hernandez from C.K. McClatchy High School as she competes this week in the CIF State Wrestling Championships in Bakersfield! Learn more here

HIRAM JOHNSON HIGH SCHOOL UPGRADES

Through SCUSD funding, a State allocation and a partnership with Morton Golf Foundation, Hiram Johnson will be completing the football stadium project, begin work on swimming pool maintenance and a new baseball field, and begin plans for a golf facility and enrichment program. YOUTH EMPLOYMENT

Last day to submit your interest form! Sac City Unified is looking for highly motivated 10-12th graders to work in the after school space at local elementary and middle schools. Students must fill out an interest form TODAY to be considered. 

BLACK PARENT INVOLVEMENT DAY

We are proud to partner with Black Parallel School Board to support parent engagement which makes a positive impact on our students. Black Parent Involvement Day will take place at SCUSD schools on Monday, February 28. If you’re interested in participating, visit the Black Parallel School Board website to learn more. We encourage all parents to participate in observing your student’s classrooms while following our health and safety guidelines and parent visitor protocols.

CSAC CASH FOR COLLEGE

Still need help with financial aid applications for your college-bound senior? On March 1st, attend a CSAC Cash For College workshop in commemoration of our Asian and Pacific Islander Community. Get help on your student’s FAFSA or CADAA application and be entered for a chance at a $1000 scholarship. Register here

SAC STATE’S 4TH ANNUAL API COLLEGE DAY

Join over 18 free college and career workshop sessions on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 9am-2pm. The event will be held virtually with the goal to promote early awareness of college access and career preparation. Register here

STATE SEAL OF CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

High school seniors can apply to have the State Seal of Civic Engagement added to their diploma once they graduate by participating in community and social service activities. Learn more and apply here by March 14. If you have questions, you can also find office hours for support here

SCUSD SCHOLARSHIPS

SCUSD has scholarships just for SCUSD High School Seniors who are planning to attend higher education. Please view the various SCUSD scholarships, their eligibility, their requirements and apply here. You can apply to multiple SCUSD scholarships as long as you are eligible. If you need help please contact your counselor or college mentor.

TEACHER OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS

It’s been quite a year for our SCUSD community and we want to acknowledge all of our amazing educators who have worked so hard to keep schools open and safe this year while engaging our incredible students. READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY

Read Across America Day was established by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 to help get kids excited about reading. The day occurs each year on the birthday of beloved children’s book author Dr. Seuss, March 2, and many of our schools are participating by reading aloud to students in classrooms. Because hitting the books is fun!

Please delete if you receive a message from a high profile SCUSD email address about a UNICEF job opportunity. This account was compromised over the weekend and this email is a phishing attempt that was sent by a hacker. If you clicked on the link in the email, please notify Technology Services at support@scusd.edu.
