Summer is flying by! We’re so excited to welcome your student back to school on September 1, but for now, here are some opportunities to get resources and have some family fun!  

7/27 – COME GROW WITH US JOB FAIR

Join us Wednesday, July 27 for a hiring event at Serna Center between 9 and 11:30am. Enjoy Kona Ice while exploring opportunities in a variety of open positions: 

  • Clerical
  • Bus Drivers
  • Instructional Aides
  • Campus Monitors
  • Special Education
  • Noon/Breakfast Duty Custodians
  • Food Service Assistants
  • Teachers

7/30 – GET TO KNOW US FAIR

The team at SCUSD’s central office wants to meet you! Learn about what each department can do to support you or your student.  There are chances to win raffle items, including gift cards, a bike or a tablet! On Saturday, July 30, we’ll be welcoming you and your whole family at the Serna Center from 10am-1pm.

  • Accepting and distributing enrollment packets
  • Recruiting for a wide variety of positions
  • Free food and drinks
  • Free Kona Ice
  • Free bike repairs by Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates
  • Free books for kids
  • Free kids zone with bounce house…
  • … and more! 

Serna Center is located at 5735 47th Ave. and the event will be taking place adjacent to the enrollment center. 

SUMMER MOBILE FOOD PANTRY

Get free groceries and fresh produce curbside every Monday through Friday from 8-9:30am until August 12 at five locations throughout our district: 

  • Mondays – West Campus
  • Tuesdays – Father Keith B. Kenny
  • Wednesdays – AM Winn
  • Thursdays – Rosa Parks
  • Fridays – Serna Center

SUMMER MEALS

Free summer meals continue through this Friday. In partnership with The Central Kitchen, we’re offering FREE breakfast and lunch at 32 school sites Monday through Friday through July 29.

  • Breakfast will be served from 8-8:30 am.
  • Lunch will be served from 12-12:30 pm.

These meals will be provided to any child aged 18 years old and under at no cost. No paperwork is required. Students are not required to be enrolled in an SCUSD school to receive a free meal. Meals will be available in the school cafeteria. Children must be present during meal service hours, and eat their meal onsite. Find your nearest summer meals site here.

COVID-19 TESTING CONSENT

We’ll continue participating in the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) COVID-19 testing program in the 2022-2023 school year. All previously signed consents for CDPH expired June 17, 2022, so all students, staff and household members who wish to participate in our testing offerings will need to sign new consents. Sign the new school year consent today and check it off your to-do list!

9/1 – FOOD LITERACY CENTER RIBBON CUTTING

Tickets are now on sale for the Food Literacy Center’s ribbon cutting event! An innovative project 7 years in the making, Food Literacy Center will serve over 300 Leataata Floyd Elementary students, and students throughout our district community, by teaching kids how to identify, grow, prepare, cook and love vegetables. At the event on September 1, guests will enjoy: 

  • Tours of our new cooking school
  • Bites & sips from top local chefs
  • Planting activity with our students
  • Live music
  • Dignitaries & ceremonial ribbon cutting

NOW ENROLLING IN OUR PARENT PARTICIPATION PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS

Our Parent Participation Preschool and Toddler program, located at Edward Kelley, Thomas Jefferson and Tahoe Elementary, is now enrolling for Fall 2022. Preschool children must be fully potty trained and between the ages of 3 and 5 years old to attend. The monthly costs are: 4 day ($197), 5 day ($241) and Friday Toddler Class ($86).
