Today We Are Grateful for Our Teachers
California’s Teacher Appreciation Week runs May 8-12, and California Day of the Teacher is celebrated today. The state has 295,000 teachers, and 2,500 of them are employed in our district.
The California Teachers Association reports that our Day of the Teacher has its roots in the community and is modeled on Mexico’s “El Dia del Maestro.” California’s Day of the Teacher arose from legislation co-sponsored by CTA and the Association of Mexican American Educators in 1982.
PTA suggestions for honoring or remembering your favorite teacher include:
- Have your child sign and present our ready-made thank-you cards to their teachers!
- Have your school principal, PTA/PTSA President or student sign and present our ready-made appreciation certificates to the teachers in your life.
- Share photos and your activities during the week by using the hashtag #ThankATeacher on social media!
- Upload a #TBT of you and your favorite teacher and thank them using the official hashtag #ThankATeacher.
Sacramento City Unified is also celebrating its instructional team on May 18 at its first Teacher Appreciation Gala.
