Three, two, one…countdown to September 1 begins now!
The first day of school is just around the corner on Thursday, September 1. SCUSD teachers and staff are ready and excited to welcome back returning students and greet new families.
New this year: On Thursdays, students will be released an hour earlier than last year to accommodate teacher collaborative time. This new schedule begins on the first day of school. Be sure to check with your school to learn the Thursday dismissal time.
Some tips for getting students ready for school from www.kids.gov:
- Update vaccinations. If you haven’t already, visit www.scusd.edu/immunization to learn which shots are needed for school.
- Ease into the school routine. A good night sleep is key to a successful school day. Preschoolers need 11-12 hours of sleep a night, school-age children need at least 10 hours, while teens need 9-10 hours.
- Plan and practice how to get to school. Streets around schools are crowded around bell time. Leave early.
- Calm anxious kids. As the first day gets closer, some children get anxious. Reassure your child that they will be safe at school.
