Sutter MESA students visit Caltrans TransLab
Sutter Middle School’s MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement) class visited the the Caltrans TransLab facility in Sacramento last month.
The students toured the concrete, flexible pavement, chemistry, electrical testing and structures materials labs. Caltrans professionals shared their academic and professional experiences with the students.
“MESA students have a new understanding of how different materials are used in the construction and maintenance of freeways and bridges,” said teacher Yasmin Henry. “They witnessed how what they learn in class applies to real-world applications.”
The students will be working on building model bridges and competing with local middle school at UC Davis in March 2016.
