SCUSD middle school students take top MESA honors
Students from California and Sutter middle schools placed in the MESA Northern California Regional Competition on April 30 at U.C. Davis.
The competition asked teams to construct a functional prosthetic arm out of household materials that works with the aid of an Arduino circuit board.
Students used computer-coded instructions to operate their arm. In addition to arm construction, students adhered to a strict budget, wrote a technical paper and presented their findings to a panel.
Congratulations to Cal Middle’s team of Riley Swanson, Nolan Leung Grealish and Madeline Sellards who placed second in the Northern California Regional. Congratulations to Sutter Middle’s team of Zuriel Joven and Nathan Smith, who placed third. Both teams competed with schools from the San Francisco Bay Area, San Jose, Stockton and Chico.
