Sac City Unified’s Be HERE Campaign kicks off National Attendance Awareness Month
District continues efforts to address chronic absenteeism

e-Connections Post

Last year, Sacramento City Unified School District launched the “Be HERE!” campaign to educate our families about chronic absence and the importance of good school attendance. Our staff’s hard work has paid off as we reported this summer that efforts to reduce chronic absenteeism in high-risk schools have been working!

However, there is still much more that needs to be done to help educate students and families about the importance of regular school attendance. Studies have shown that students who are not at school are not learning. And, if a student misses two days a month or more, these students are considered chronically absent.

That is why the District has established a goal of helping all schools achieve 98 percent attendance in the first month of the new school year! The District recognized September as Attendance Awareness Month. The campaign is a joint effort with our students, families, schools, and community to ensure that all of our students succeed in school and life.
