Remembering Leataata Floyd
The following message has been provided by Leataata Floyd Elementary School to share with the community:
Dear Community Members:
We are sad to share that on November 15, 2018, our beloved Leataata Floyd passed away after battling an illness.
Rightfully, our school was renamed in her honor in 2012 for her continuous commitment to our school and its community. As our matriarch, she served and loved our kids and families in deep, honest and authentic ways. For many years Leataata humbly worked in the community to assist in the establishment of Police Athletic Leagues, served on the community council to ensure safety and programs for parents and children, and worked with community leaders to host Family Night events to bring community members together.
For approximately 20 years, Leataata Floyd had been working with students here at our school in appreciating Polynesian culture through dance. “Taata”, as we called her, had danced, tutored kids and been loving the families and staff here at our school in the most amazing of ways. Her legacy lives in all of us, most especially our children. While our entire community will miss her dearly, the contributions she has made in shaping the lives of so many young people, will live on for many years.
Thank you Taata for everything you gave us. We love you and miss you.
