October is National Bullying Prevention Month

e-Connections Post

School looks a little different this year for all students. Navigating cyberbullying can be difficult, especially during COVID-19.  October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and bullying prevention is one way to support students to get the most from their education.

What is Bullying?

Bullying is an unwanted aggressive act that includes each of the following components:

  • intent to do harm
  • repeated over time
  • an imbalance of power

How can you report it?

Bullying behavior that involves student-to-student aggression can be reported to any SCUSD employee or administrator verbally or in writing.

  1. We encourage parents, guardians, or other individuals concerned about bullying, to submit a Report of Suspected Bullying Form to their school site administrator (principal).
  2. To make an anonymous report, you may call the WeTIP system at 1-855-86-BULLY.
  3. If you choose to identify yourself as the reporting party, you may be contacted for additional information. However, all information will be kept strictly confidential.

What are some of the warning signs your child is being bullied?

  • Unexplained injuries
  • Lost or destroyed property (clothing, books, or electronics)
  • Changes in eating habits, like suddenly skipping meals or binge eating
  • Frequent stomach aches, headaches, or other physical complaints
  • Difficulty sleeping or frequent nightmares
  • Declining grades, loss of interest in schoolwork, or not wanting to go to school
  • Sudden loss of friends or avoidance of social situations
  • Feelings of helplessness or decreased self-esteem
  • Self-destructive behavior, such as running away from home, harming themselves, or talking about suicide

If your child is exhibiting signs of feeling hopeless, helpless, or is thinking of suicide, please contact the National Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273-8255 or click here for additional suicide prevention resources.

We have additional resources for families, teachers, and community members:

  • Tener heridas/lesiones inexplicables
  • Propiedad perdida o destruida (ropa, libros o electrónicos)
