New Tech Student Designs Art of Kindness Poster
If artist Andy Warhol were still alive, he would probably have to move over in a few years to make room for New Tech junior Alexander “Alex” Bersamin. Alex recently designed the poster for the “Art of Kindness” event scheduled for April 20 at the Serna Center.
The showcase event celebrates and showcases Social Emotional Learning in action and the different visual and performing artistic talents of Sac City Unified students. This is the third year the district is hosting the event which helps bring together families, friends, school and district partners, elected officials and staff.
Alex said his main focus after receiving the assignment from his teacher Dale Means, was to combine the words about the event with the image – one of last year’s winning art pieces. “I like the paint drips in the image because they helped the words stand out,” he said. Alex is in Mr. Means’ Visual Communication and Digital Media classes and used Adobe Illustrator software to complete the design in three days.
Alex said he is considering a career as a graphic designer or combining art and storytelling in a field such as game design.
The Art of Kindness showcase takes place Friday, April 20, at the Serna Center from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. From now until then, the district has launched the Art of Kindness challenge, where students, staff and community members are asked to perform a random act of kindness and post it on social media using the hashtag #SCUSDKindness.
