New Reading Corner Sparks Learning at Isador Cohen
Congratulations to Isador Cohen Elementary School students and staff on the grand opening of a new reading corner on Monday morning. Thanks to the work of the Sacramento Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, students can now enjoy a very special spot to read.
School students and family joined Jack and Jill members in a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday followed by exploring and testing out the new bean bag seating, books and mural. “We believe, and the statistics show, that if we teach children to read and they’re excited about reading, it improves their cognitive development,” said Dr. Lenore Tate, who worked on the project. She added that good reading skills also improve students’ ability to move forward in school. “More importantly it helps them to achieve their goals.”
Jack and Jill members gave up their Sunday to prepare the new library corner aimed at encouraging young students to find pleasure in reading. Jack and Jill, Inc. was founded in 1938 and is a nationwide organization providing social, cultural and educational opportunities for youth between the ages of 2 and 19.
