Independent Study Option
2022-2023

e-Connections Post

Dear Sacramento City Unified Family,

We want to inform you on important information regarding enrollment at our Capital City Independent Study program for the 2022-23 school year and beyond.

In July of 2021, Governor Newsom signed Assembly Bill 130 into law for the 2021-22 school year.  AB 130 provided provisions for students to have independent study as an option for instruction during the COVID pandemic.

Students who are currently wanting to attend Capital City may contact Capital City for registration and would remain on the waitlist until space becomes available.  Students with exceptional needs would require an IEP meeting to determine if Independent Study is an appropriate placement to meet the student’s unique needs in light of their circumstances.

As we prepare for our 2022-23 site enrollments and staffing needs, we would like all families who have expressed interest in Capital City to make a formal decision about whether they would like to participate in the independent study program.

Students who are currently enrolled at Capital City have the opportunity to return to their 2021-22 school of residence for in person instruction.  Students wanting to return to their previous school of residence for in person instruction may continue to do so between now and the end of the 2021-22 school year by notifying Capital City staff.  Staff at Capital City and the student’s school of residence will assist with transferring the student back to their school of residence.

Current Capital City students choosing to remain at Capital City for the 2022-23 school year, have received an Intent to Return Letter and Intent to Return Survey from Capital City during April.  Students choosing to remain at Capital City for 2022-23 will no longer have a seat reserved for them at their school of residence and parents will be required to follow district guidelines for student registration found on the Enrollment Center homepage and students would adhere to traditional space capacity at sites.
