Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Hiram Johnson High School Athletic Facility
After decades of playing on an old field, student athletes at Hiram Johnson High School can finally celebrate the groundbreaking of a new $5.3 million athletic field and facility that will be funded with voter approved bond money.
To celebrate the start of the construction phase, a groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday, June 12, with members of the Sacramento City Unified Board of Education, student athletes at the school, coaches, teachers, parents and community members.
Construction crews will work over the summer and early fall to demolish the site, clear out the existing grub and then begin building a new synthetic turf soccer/football field and all-weather surface 8-lane track that will open on November 1, 2018.
