Caleb Greenwood students connect the past to the future during Exhibition Day
Caleb Greenwood Elementary School celebrated Exhibition Day on Friday, March 18 – a demonstration of learning that was six weeks in the making.
Exhibition Day is tied to the campus’ International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and ”represents a significant event in the life of every PYP school and student,” says Principal Erin Hanson.
“The Exhibition is an opportunity for students reaching the end of the (IB program) to synthesize the essential elements of the program and share them with the whole school community.”
Students are required to engage in a collaborative, trans-disciplinary inquiry process. They select a ”Central Idea” sufficient in scope and significance to warrant a detailed investigation by all students. This year, Caleb Greenwood students created the Central Idea that “the ancient world is connected to the past, present and future.”
Students followed their interests to investigate and connect an aspect of ancient times with today and how it will impact the future. Guided by their teachers and mentors, they studied such concepts as medicine, education, warfare, slavery, money and numbers, art and inventions.
At the end, the students created iMovies, games, artwork and interactive features; performed skits; and shared their presentations with the entire school community.
