Cable TV group rolls out red carpet for student video awards
The SEVAs are the Oscars of the K-12 set
Student video producers will be celebrated on May 10 when the Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium hosts the SEVAs (Student Educational Video Awards) at Sacramento State.
Organizers expect more than 1,000 students, parents, teachers and administrators to attend the SEVAs. Like the Oscars, the SEVAs are a red-carpet affair with paparazzi and winner acceptance speeches.
The free event starts at 7 p.m.; the red carpet preview begins at 6.
This year, students will get the opportunity to compete for a T-shirt in a SEVA Instagram photo contest. Participants are asked to tag photos taken at the event with #SEVAawards and @secceducationaltv.
Twenty-seven SCUSD students and student teams submitted entries to the SEVAs this year. Each year, SECC also honors a special teacher with the Allan Hinderstein Award, created in remembrance of a visionary educator who collaborated with the consortium to create a variety of innovative teaching and learning projects.
Last year, Luther Burbank High School’s John Hull, a digital media instructor, was honored with the Hinderstein Award.
