e-Connections Post

Xao Thao, a senior at Luther Burbank High School, and Samantha Templin, a senior at West Campus High School, have successfully completed a year-long Thousand Strong internship program with the Sacramento City Unified School District’s communications department! Serving as social media interns for the district, Xao and Samantha successfully managed school Facebook pages and helped sites develop creative content and share positive news and success stories on social media.

“Samantha and Xao did an incredible job of helping schools develop content that boosted our schools’ social media presence and ability to share information with families,” said Chief Communications Officer Alex Barrios. “The work they did to launch this innovative program has laid the foundation for future interns to continue expanding our schools’ social media presence and reach.”

Both students plan on attending college after graduation. Samantha will be attending the University of Wyoming as an Agricultural Business major. “My goal is to pursue a career that allows me to incorporate my love for the outdoors and animals with my interests in business,” she said. Xao will be attending Sacramento State University and plans to major in computer science. After helping to co-launch the social media internship program with Samantha, he said “I hope I can be a role model for myself and for all of my other peers.”

The social media internship program is the first of its kind in District history. The opportunity was made available to students with the help of the City’s Thousand Strong Program, which is focused on creating internship and job opportunities for Sacramento’s youth.
