Attention Seniors! We’re Planning Virtual Graduation Ceremonies for the Class of 2020
We are planning virtual graduation ceremonies to honor our graduating class of 2020. While we wish we could celebrate in person together, a virtual graduation ceremony is a safe way for us to celebrate and congratulate our seniors for achieving this significant milestone.
“While our students are not in our classroom, they are in our thoughts and remain close to our hearts,” said Sacramento City Unified School District Superintendent Jorge Aguilar. “The graduating class of 2020 deserves recognition for achieving this educational milestone and for making this transition at a seminal moment in our history. We look forward to celebrating this special day with our graduates and our communities, in a safe virtual space. We’re going to make the best of this moment together.”
“Our Class of 2020 must be recognized for their hard work, dedication, and achievements,” said Sacramento City Unified Board President Jessie Ryan. “As we are all experiencing the difficulty of this health crisis together, I cannot begin to imagine how exceptionally hard this must be for our graduating class and the families who have supported them every step of the way. This wasn’t what any of us expected, but we must come together as a community to make this important milestone special for our students.”
Each Sac City Unified High School will have access to Jostens Virtual Commencement Center, and their graduation teams will create virtual graduations that reflect who they are. Jostens created a mock virtual ceremony video so seniors and their families can get a better idea of what the virtual graduation might look like.
The virtual graduation ceremonies may include speakers, music, presentation of the class, diplomas, and movement of the tassel. Schools will have a three-step process:
- Platform: A variety of technology platforms to help realize virtual graduation goals.
- Program: Exclusive virtual commencement content including celebrity commencement speeches, official class song, and more.
- Diploma Presentation: Creative ways to present our student’s diplomas safely.
Each school with graduating high school seniors will be communicating with families about more details of when and how to view the virtual ceremony, dates and times for cap and gown pick-ups, and distribution of diplomas. Please look out for these communications and contact your school site should you have any questions.
